Despite it being well over a month since Elden Ring released its latest DLC, The Forsaken Hollows, there is one area that players are still struggling with resulting in a series of review bombs for the FromSoftware title.
Arriving alongside two new Nightfarers, final bosses, and new Night Bosses, Elden Ring Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollows gave players an excuse to dive back into the fray months after the roguelike action RPG was first released.
Set in the world of Elden Ring, Nightreign puts a unique spin on the otherwise single-player soulslike by allowing players to team up to take down a series of familiar bosses over a three-night cycle.
Since its release back in May 2025, Nightreign sold over 5 million copies and even found itself topping May’s sales charts across all platforms which was no doubt attributed to the success of Elden Ring itself.

Now thanks to the brand-new DLC, players are returning and despite loving the new Nightfarers and bosses, there is one area of the map which some players just can’t get to grips with.
According to a myriad of players, the new DLC map is just too confusing, or more specifically, its Shifting Earth event.
Put simply, this event will cause the entire map to randomly change meaning that known landmarks no longer exist, or are moved completely and the environment is now centered around a giant crystal which has crashlanded onto the middle of the map.

How To Quickly Lose Your Runes
As a result, the land around it has been broken up, forming towering cliffs and deep ravines which makes reading the in-game map a whole lot harder.
Although Nightreign does not include fall damage like Elden Ring, players still need to account for the giant chasm running throughout the length of the new map during the Shifting Earth event.
And yes, if you fall into it, you are dead.
Not only that but when you repsawn, you can repsawn on one of the nearby cliffs but whether it will be on top or below is entirely random, making it almost impossible for your teammates to find you in time.
So kiss goodbye to those runes.
Overall, this new feature has caused Elden Ring: Nightreign players to put forward a series of scathing reviews and as such, The Forsaken Hollows DLC currently sits at a ‘Mostly Negative’ rating on Steam.
It is unclear how long players will be stuck with this new map but unless there are changes made to the “death chasm”, it seems as though FromSoftware will continue to be the victim of review bombing.
