Finally, one of the most underrated games in the Assassin’s Creed series is getting its long-awaited free new-gen update.

In recent years, various Assassin’s Creed games, such as 2015’s Syndicate, as well as Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey, have all been treated to a free new-gen update that gives them a much-needed 60 frames-per-second boost. However, one game had been neglected, that was until now.

When Assassin’s Creed Unity was released in 2014, to say that it was a bit of a buggy mess would be an understatement. That being said, there was this one image of a bug that was making the social media rounds, which perhaps gave the impression that more people were experiencing this bug than in actual reality.

Assassin’s Creed Unity Didn't Have the Best Launch

However, that’s not to say that Assassin’s Creed Unity wasn't still filled with widespread bugs, because it most certainly was, such as animation glitches, crashes and big framerate dips, to name a few.

To Ubisoft’s credit, most of those bugs were fixed, but unfortunately, much of the damage had already been done, because many fans had moved on from Assassin’s Creed Unity. For me personally, it’s one of my favourite games in the series (when it was fixed), and even 12 years later, visually, it still looks fantastic.

Yesterday in a blog post, not only did Ubisoft kind of acknowledge the rumours of the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake, but it also announced that the free new-gen update for Unity is coming and best of all, it’s available today!

“We know some of you have been waiting for it for a long time, so get ready to re‑experience 18th-century Paris and Arno's fancy parkour moves with more smoothness on consoles,” the post read.

The 60fps update for Assassin’s Creed Unity will be available on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. There is no such update on PC, due to the fact that capable PCs can far exceed 60fps, so there was simply no need for it.

Hopefully, now that this free update is live, it might not only encourage fans to return to Assassin’s Creed Unity, but also those who may have been initially put off by its launch, not to mention some new fans, too.

It’s just great to see that Assassin’s Creed Unity is finally getting some much-needed love from Ubisoft.
