Cyberpunk 2077 Inspired RPG Adds Multiplayer Fun into the Mix

Injecting indie mayhem in to our veins

The accessibility of game development tools in 2025 has led to a ton of exciting indie projects that are well worth keeping an eye on, regardless of what genre you usually favour as a player.

DEFECT is one of those games, offering a pretty astounding visual experience, with all of the dystopian sci-fi elements that you'd expect from a game like Cyberpunk 2077, or one of its ilk.

The game is a squad-based shooter that takes place in a far flung future where the world is ruled over by a nefarious AI simply known as The System. The game can be enjoyed in single-player, if you prefer the depth of experience and immersion that offers, or team up in co-op to take on your foes.

Very excitingly, developer emptyvessel has just announced the addition of a new 4v4v4v4 PVP mode featuring dynamic multi-objective battles that should work well in the setting they have created.

Revel in the Anarchy

The cool thing about DEFECT is just how deep it sounds like it's going to be.

In the developer's own words, you can 'choose from a collection of dangerous factions - The System’s own policing force, Rogue Police Elements, or a host of gangs vying for power'.

They add: "Play in Single-player for a deeper offline experience, or play with friends in PvP or co-op.

Compete to achieve objectives like smuggling guns, assassinating targets, or arresting suspects. Suit up with state of the art weaponry and technology to give you the edge you need to live another day."

Graphically, it's very impressive, with a ton of unique models for enemies and environments that really make the game look like its own thing, rather than aesthetically similar to other titans in the genre.

In a post sharing details about the game on their official page, fans were quick to comment with how excited they are for the full release.

"Wait... Isn't this the project Mick Gordon was working on? Oh, I'm buying the shit out of this," one comment read.

"Combining GTFO, cyberpunk, and ready or not into one game is definitely an interesting idea," another added.

Another, more tentative potential fan, added, "Looks pretty good. Hope it has some story and the single player is not just go here and kill this guy, go there and kill that guy."

The only bad news is that the game doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, so we'll be waiting until at least 2026 to get our hands on it. We'll be waiting in the wings for it to do so though.
