I cannot blame you if you’ve grown tired of leaks pertaining to the next generation of consoles.
It once held the same air of mystery as, say, a unicorn, but a unicorn wouldn’t command such intrigue if you saw one every day.
Whispers and rumours concerning the next generation have been persistent as of late, and vague assurances of ‘this console is coming’ can grow boring.
It’s with all of this in mind though that I recommend you sit up and take note of today’s latest tidbit of news.

This isn’t a vague promise from a random social media user; this is verified intel almost directly from the horse’s mouth.
By all accounts, it looks as if Microsoft is set to launch the next-gen Xbox next year in 2027 - and that’s according to tech partner AMD.
Start Saving Now, Next-Gen Xbox Consoles Are Coming in 2027
As reported by PC Mag, AMD CEO Lisa Su referenced the next Xbox console would have a 2027 launch window, during a recent company earnings call.
The context you’ll require here is that AMD is responsible for producing a semi-custom SoC for Microsoft’s next-gen consoles.
In simple terms, SoC refers to ‘system on a chip’ which is a circuit that combines the various components you’re likely familiar with, including the likes of GPU, CPU, and memory.

During the earnings call, Su revealed, “From a product standpoint, Valve is on-track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year, and development of Microsoft's next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.”

Oops. That’s about as clear cut as it gets.
If AMD, the company behind one of the next-gen Xbox’s key components, claims the console is targeting a 2027 launch, then that’s what’s happening.
I’m not going to urge you to take this with a pinch of salt, because I don’t think there’s any need. What I will say, however, is that plans could change.
The console’s release could be pushed back due to unforeseen circumstances, but I’m of the belief that this window likely is what Microsoft is targeting.
It'll Likely Cost More Than The Series X
Beyond this, there’s very little we know about the console.
Previously, Xbox’s Sarah Bond teased that it would mark “the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation”, but we don’t know what that looks like in practice.
Rumours claim the console could be a PC hybrid, running platforms like Steam but that one is just that, a rumour.
Given the ambition of Xbox’s next-gen console, my recommendation would be to start saving now if you want one.
It's practically impossible to put a price on the next-gen console at this stage, but it's not a stretch to say that it'll likely out-price the Xbox Series X at launch. As a reminder, that launched at £449.99.
Not only does the next-gen console sound to be more ambitious, but RAM price increases will likely affect things too.
With the hardware set to launch next year, you don’t have that long - and I’m going to hazard a guess that it won’t be cheap.
