Cyberpunk 2077 is still receiving updates from CD Projekt RED; developers just can’t leave this modern day masterpiece alone.

I didn’t think I’d be typing those words on launch day.

Alongside this though, it’s well known by now that Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel is in development.

It’s not CD Projekt RED’s top priority - that’s The Witcher 4.

There is a small team working on the game though, referred to by its codename of Project Orion.

There’s very little we know about the project. In fact, we don’t really know anything at all, but fans are eager to discover whether it’ll have a multiplayer mode.

Does Cyberpunk 2077 Have Multiplayer?

Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t have a multiplayer mode, but that’s not to say that something like that couldn’t appear in a sequel.

In fact, a rumour recently surfaced suggesting that may indeed be the case.

CD Projekt RED recently put out a job ad for a lead network engineer who will “play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the network architecture and online systems”.

It’s by no means concrete proof, but it’s an interesting little thing to note.

Although this position could be for the multiplayer Witcher game which is believed to be in development under the codename Project Sirius.

Then again, development on that is being handled by partner Molasses Flood, so a CD Projekt RED hire wouldn’t make a ton of sense.

Fans have, in the meantime, taken to discussing their thoughts on a potential multiplayer mode.

“Why would we need it?” asked Reddit user dignitydiggity.

“Don’t you think it would be pretty cool to get into some f**ked up twisted scenarios that Night City brings with a friend or two? IMO the world is very immersive and the way that game feels (tbh even pre 2.0) it just seems like CDPR would/could do something really cool with a co-op,” countered BigNblue.

“It's a huge map. Add activities, mini games. Duo photo poses and dances. It would be cool. Sometimes the game feels empty,” wrote A_Wolf_Named_Foxxy, seemingly onboard with the idea.

There is, it’s worth bearing in mind, a multiplier mod available for those who have Cyberpunk 2077 on PC.

The mod is titled ‘CyberMP’, although it does remain in development.

The latest update was dropped by modders back in May where the creation underwent beta testing.

You can follow along with its progress via its website or via Discord.

As for an official multiplayer mode, well, we’ll be sure to bring any updates to you should they land.
