Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Tease Just Dropped Out of Nowhere

Online could be coming to the sequel

A new rumour suggests that we could be getting multiplayer in the next Cyberpunk game.

Cyberpunk 2 was announced earlier this year, and while we’re still probably years away from getting any tangible information about the game. However, that hasn’t stopped various leaks and rumours from manifesting.

We’ve heard murmurs about the release date, as well as the potential setting. But there’s still so much that we don’t know about yet.

However, we may have just learned another little nugget of info. As spotted by The Gamer, it’s looking increasingly likely that Cyberpunk 2 will feature multiplayer or online gameplay of some kind.

CD Projekt Red has posted a few job adverts online, indicating new roles that the company is looking to hire in the near future. These roles consist of very technical skillsets, such as Lead Technical Producer and Senior Engine Programmer.

The company is also looking to add a Lead Network Engineer to the team, which “will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the network architecture and online systems” on Cyberpunk 2.

As you probably are aware, Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t have a multiplayer component, but this could imply that CD Projekt Red is planning to implement it into the sequel.

On the other hand, this doesn’t necessarily mean that multiplayer will be added to the game. “Network architecture and online systems” could also apply to online services that interact with the single-player.

It could mean that Cyberpunk 2 has some features that require being connected to the internet to function properly, even if there’s no multiplayer component. This isn’t typical for a lot of modern games, but it has been seen before in titles like Hitman: World of Assassination and the single-player campaign in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

This could come in the form of online leaderboards, or custom content being downloaded directly from the game client, or even online downloadable content that is delivered to you. It’s unknown really at this point of time exactly how it will be implemented.

In other Cyberpunk news, a small update came to Cyberpunk 2077 last week which applies a few changes to AutoDrive and Photo Mode, including new poses that work with any gender you play as for V.

The AutoDrive changes also makes traversal easier, where if you’re heading towards a selected point, the vehicle now drives smoothly, overtaking blocking vehicles and no longer stopping at traffic lights.
