Pokémon Pokopia is a GOTY contender. Did anyone see that coming?
As it stands, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo’s collaboration sits as the highest-rated game of the year so far with a MetaCritic score of 89.
Here at GAMINGbible, we awarded a perfect score of 10, writing, “There’s no one reason why Pokémon Pokopia is so special; this game is a sum of its parts, without a single weak link in the chain.”
Pokémon Pokopia is officially out now, so you can finally see what all of the fuss is about - and what’s better is that it looks as if it’ll receive plenty of post-launch support.
Advert
Already, Pokémon Pokopia’s first in-game event has been revealed and it takes place in a few days time.
You won’t want to miss it as you’ll be able to nab yourself some nostalgic, free in-game items.
Pokémon Pokopia’s First In-Game Event Is a Gen 2 Themed Picnic
From 9 March at 1pm PT / 4pm ET / 9pm GMT to 24 March 1pm PT / 4pm ET / 9pm GMT, Pokémon Pokopia will play host to the ‘More Spores for Hoppip’ event.
During this, you’ll unsurprisingly be able to befriend Hoppip who’ll then set up residence with you in the Withered Wastelands.
The event will also allow players to gather Cotton Spores which you can exchange for exclusive “picnic-themed furniture items”.
Place these items together in the correct way and you’ll create several new habitats that’ll allow you to lure in two more Gen 2 favourites, Skiploom and Jumpluff.
There’s only one caveat here. You can only get involved in the event if you’ve rebuilt the Pokémon Center in the Withered Wastelands.
I’d say that’s something I completed within the first four to five hours, so you’ve got plenty of time to get that done before this event begins.
It’s very important that you don’t miss ‘More Spores for Hoppip’ as you won’t be able to secure Hoppip, Skiploom, and Jumpluff outside of it.
There’s also another freebie up for grabs, a cute in-game Ditto rug which, annoyingly, I purchased from the Pokémon Center PC module shop just last night.
Still, I’ll nab myself a second one.
Simply open up the ‘Mystery Gifts’ menu on the Pokémon Center PC and select ‘Get Via Internet’.
That gift will remain available until 31 January 2027, so you’ve got plenty of time.
Players unlock the PC around 30 minutes or so into their Pokémon Pokopia adventure.

It’s a thrill to see the game already adding new content this early into its life cycle.
Hopefully, both Nintendo and Koei Tecmo have seen what a hit they have on their hands, and they’ll really infuse this title with longevity.
I’m still playing Pokémon Pokopia in every free moment I get, and that’s not going to end any time soon.
