Grand Theft Auto is a video game series known for its crimes. I mean it’s literally in the title.
However I think players will be astounded to see just how many crimes you can actually commit in Rockstar Games’ open-worlds.
YouTube Any Austin put it all to the test in a YouTube video where they endeavoured to learn just how many things Grand Theft Auto considers illegal.
Anyone who’s played Grand Theft Auto V will know how easy it is to gain a wanted level. Sometimes you’ll get a star just for staring at a police officer the wrong way, or bumping into one of them too many times.

As you’ll see when you watch the video, doing pretty much anything in the presence of a police officer will most likely get you arrested. Or in GTA V’s case, shot on sight.
However some methods of catching police attention are downright weird, and sometimes nonsensical.

For example trespassing on the Los Santos golf course is grounds for a police chase apparently, sometimes more so than actual petty crimes.
One of the comments also pointed out that you can trigger a police chase by driving past them without any tires on your car. You’d accomplish this by shooting the tires out first, driving around until they blow off and then watch as the vehicle slips and slides down the street.
I guess that would technically be illegal to do in real-life but it’s still weird that the Los Santos police department becomes so enraged by it.
Another weird one is standing on top of a police officer’s car.
I’d say this mostly applies for when they’re inside it but I wouldn’t be surprised if it works for when it’s parked outside a station too.
One of the most interesting mechanics related to GTA V crime is the reporting system. Say you hijack a car for example, if you leave the car owner alive they’ll likely phone the police and you’ll start a chase. If you kill them but someone else is nearby to report it you’ll get the same thing.
However if you do it on a dusty road out in the middle of nowhere and there’s no one to report you, you’ll get away scot-free.
With almost every player’s default playstyle being shooting up the streets and crashing vehicles into stuff it’s easy to forget that there’s far more depth to GTA V’s crime system than we sometimes give it credit for.
