PS5 Just Quietly Revived One of the PS4's Handiest Features

Finally, they listened

PlayStation is bringing back a feature from the PlayStation 4 to its digital store, one that should have never been removed in the first place.

I’m going to be so honest with you, I hate the PlayStation 5 UI. I love the console itself but I hate the home screen and I’m not a fan of the digital store layout either.

It’s for this reason that I tend to check out the latest releases either on my phone with the PlayStation app, or online via the web.

However the website version of the PlayStation Store has its own set of issues, some of which have recently been fixed by Sony.

Back when the PlayStation 4 was Sony’s main home console, the PlayStation Store website was pretty good. You could find games you were interested in, take a gander at some screenshots and often watch one of the game’s trailers, usually the announcement one.

When the PlayStation 5 rolled around those features were cut for whatever reason. You’d be able to read a description for the game you were looking at, but wouldn’t be able to see it.

Why on Earth Sony would do this is beyond me, as there’s never been a time where I haven’t wanted to see a product first before I buy it.

Now half of those features have made a comeback. Now, the web version of the PlayStation Store supports screenshots, but you still can’t see a trailer for the game you’re interested in.

Screenshots paint a decent picture of what a game is like, but you only get the full picture when you actually see it in action. I'm still hoping that trailers make a return, it continues to baffle me.

Luckily the console version of the PlayStation Store doesn’t have this issue. But like I said, I hate having to navigate it when I’m not just checking out the sales or seeing if any of my wishlisted games are on offer.

They’re simple design philosophies, so it’s weird that we’re still having to ask for them in 2026, especially when other online stores like Steam or the Nintendo eShop don’t seem to have this problem.

I’m sure this feels a lot like an old man yelling at a cloud but I can’t help but be a little peeved by it, and hopefully the screenshots coming back is a good sign that trailers are coming back too.
