One of 2026’s poorest received games is somehow getting a sequel, as confirmed by the developer.

Last month, we reported on Code Violet’s rather disappointing reception at launch, which brought in a 29% critic score and 2.6 user score on Metacritic.

Despite some decent buzz pre-launch as a spiritual successor to the Dino Crisis series, the game did not do well with critics and players at release and quickly became the first flop of the year.

Despite the apparently poor critical performance, it appears that Code Violet did better commercially, as TeamKill Media has confirmed a sequel is in production.

“We’re actively progressing on several exciting projects, with more announcements and reveals coming your way very soon,” the developer announced on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today. “Today, however, we’re especially thrilled to share some big news with the entire TeamKill community.

“Thanks to the overwhelming success of Code Violet and the incredible support from all of you, we are officially confirming that development has begun on the next chapter of Violet’s story: Code UltraViolet! We’re incredibly excited about what’s ahead and can’t wait to bring you along for the journey. Stay tuned!”

Code Violet Was Criticised Heavily At Launch, But Seems To Have Sold Well

While details are pretty bare, this does at least confirm that the game sold well enough to justify pouring resources into a new successor.

Code Violet is set in the 25th century following a cataclysm which has left the Earth uninhabitable. You play as Violet, a time traveler who wakes up in a bioengineering complex which has become swarmed with ferocious dinosaurs.

In the days after launch, the game initially had a Metacritic critic score of 40/100, however this then dropped to 29% not long after.

Many reviews criticised it for poorly written, with low quality graphics, clunky controls, and many bugs which impeded progress.

TeamKill responded to these reviews by hitting back at critics, making a post on X saying it makes “games for our fans and players who actually spend their hard earned money on our games and support us, not critics.”

It was also accused of leaving fake positive reviews for the game on Metacritic, with evidence suggesting these positive reviews were left for the game prior to its 10 January release date. These reviews were later removed from the Metacritic page.
