It's been a long old while since the brilliant post-apocalyptic adventures in Boston debuted in Fallout 4, and somehow the next game in the series feels further away than ever before.
What exactly it will look like when it does finally arrive is also a total mystery. Though design documents exist and can be found in the dark corners of the internet, proper development on Fallout 5 likely won't start in earnest until The Elder Scrolls VI is home and hosed, and it might not even be Bethesda's core development team when it does.
In the meantime, there are games out there that scratch the same itch, and one of the very best is on its way to PlayStation 5 in November.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is the long awaited post-apocalyptic sequel to the game of the same(ish) name, releasing in November 2024 to a mixed reception and immense commercial success.

It was the first game in the series for 15 years and it came with its fair share of bugs and crashes. Since then, it has been highly polished and it's now one of the true standouts in the genre.
Up until now, PlayStation 5 players have been missing out, but its arrival on the console is coming with some additional features that should have made it worth the wait.
As first reported by PushSquare, these include Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback Support, Gyro Aiming, Speakers, Lightbar, and Touchpad Gesture Utilization and Tempest 3D Audio.
PS5 Pro users can also expect better shadows and resolution, improved lighting, volumetric fog and even cloud rendering.

STALKER 2 is an absolute lesson in atmospheric tension and storytelling, even coming through the height of the conflict in the Ukraine during development. With that in mind, it's a bit of a miracle that it's here at all, so make sure to mark your calendar if you have a PS5.
