Fallout fans divided over Fallout 5's setting

I know what I'm hoping for

I wish I could tell you that Fallout 5 is deep in development, but the truth is that no one really knows.

Well, that’s not wholly accurate. The developers at Bethesda will certainly know, but that’s not information us mere mortals are privy to.

The Elder Scrolls VI is Bethesda’s key focus at the moment, and I can’t imagine that’s going to change in the coming years.

The Skyrim successor is long overdue, and I’m imagining devs are hoping for a slightly less mixed response to The Elder Scrolls VI than we saw with Starfield.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Starfield also had some extra content in development.

A PlayStation 5 port has practically already been leaked by the studio and Todd Howard previously teased a second story expansion following the launch of ‘Shattered Space’.

I wouldn’t be surprised if those two things dropped at the same time, but I am speculating there.

With that in mind, I’d hazard a guess that Fallout 5 is merely in pre-production moreso than full-blown development.

If it is, there’s a long, long wait ahead of us, so you can hardly blame fans for theorising in the meantime.

The Elder Scrolls VI was first unveiled in 2018.

What Fallout fans really want to know is where Fallout 5 will be set.

Fallout New Orleans was previously trademarked by Bethesda back in 2016 and I have to say, after recently playing South of Midnight, a Fallout title set in the Deep South sounds like a treat.

Fans have plenty of suggestions though.

“Dream? Minnesota,” wrote Reddit user KeneticKups, “Realistically? Chicago or Seattle.”

“Great lakes region. Perhaps around the Chicago area with ferries to go to Michigan,” added Competitive_Fan1708.

“Seattle has really great potential with Olympic National park so close. Imagine colossal monsters hiding in the redwoods. The Space Needle has some cool lore potential,” commented ThisIsTheNewSleeve.

User OuterspaceOdysseus echoed my own thoughts, stating, “I want to see New Orleans. We could lean more into the eldritch horror aspect, implement watercraft as a method of travel, and cool mutated wildlife which would fit right into Fallout.”

There’s no one obvious choice, so it’ll be exciting to see what Bethesda choses to go with, whenever that eventually happens.
