Legend of Zelda live-action movie finally casts Ganondorf and late Jurassic Park star

A new era for The Legend of Zelda is quickly approaching as Link and the princess are making a huge comeback in both the gaming and movie mediums.

As the Ocarina of Time remake promises to blow our socks off this year, it will be quickly followed by a live-action movie that brings Hyrule to our doorstep and puts our favourite heroes in the hands of a director (Wes Ball) famed for The Maze Runner trilgy.

So far, the actors for Link and Zelda themselves (Benjamin Ainsworth and Bo Bragason, respectively) have been announced, as the up-and-coming duo will lead The Legend of Zelda cast.

Leaked set photos have also put Nepali-Australian actress Dichen Lachman in the cast, with most assuming that she will be playing Impa, although it has not been confirmed.

Now, though, more of the cast have been officially announced, ahead of the 2027 premiere, as the famed antagonist Ganondorf gets his likeness revealed.

Ganondorf actor gets confirmed and the late Sam Neill named in unannounced role

As a returning foe for Link and Zelda in most of the games, Ganondorf will continue to be the thorn in their side in the live-action movie.

Sony, who are co-funding the movie alongside Nintendo, has confirmed that Uli Latukefu will be the face of Ganondorf.

Best known for roles in Alien: Covenant, Black Adam, and Young Rock (depicted as a youthful Dwayne Johnson), Latukefu will be imposing his six-foot-five frame as the omnipresent evil warlock king.

Interestingly, The Legend of Zelda has also reportedly named Sam Neill among its cast, as the late actor is set to have played an unnamed role in the movie before his passing earlier this year.

The New Zealand actor is a familiar face for fans of Jurassic Park, The Piano, and Peaky Blinders, and despite his role being unknown, he reportedly filmed his scenes earlier this year before passing.

Latukefu, Neill, and Lachmann will allegedly be joined by Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale) as she is set to play a royal queen in the film.

According to Deadline, the 2027 movie will be the first of many set in Hyrule, as The Legend of Zelda will reportedly be followed by more stories that feature the famed antagonist Ganondorf.

'We hear Latukefu inked a multi-picture deal here,' the report says, which suggests that he will reprise his role in more than one film, also teasing that Zelda and Link will not kill him off in the first movie.

That's quite typical of the series, though, where the antagonist has suffered fatal blows at the hand of the Master Sword, only to be reincarnated through the Triforce of Power and other means, and return as a menace in the next game.

Rumours suggest that Wes Ball plans an entire trilogy for The Legend of Zelda in the cinematic universe, although concrete details are few and far between - in fact, this report is arguably the first tangible evidence that we can expect to see the franchise in the cinema for the next decade.
