The Legend of Zelda Movie Leaked Footage Surfaces, New Character Teased

The Legend of Zelda movie is currently filming, and footage from the set now appears to have leaked online.

Nintendo confirmed back in 2023 that a live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda was in production, with the cast officially being announced earlier this year.

Bo Bragason has been confirmed to play Princess Zelda in the movie, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will be playing Link. It’s being directed by Wes Ball, best known for The Maze Runner trilogy as well as last year’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Filming of The Legend of Zelda is now underway in New Zealand, with short clips allegedly showing Bragason and Ainsworth in costume as their characters from the games.

Not only does this footage tell us more about which Zelda games are being adapted, but they have also revealed a third actor joining the movie. And we may already know what character they’re playing.

Obviously, we’ll put up a spoiler warning here. If you’d rather wait for an official trailer or poster first, you’re better off not reading on. We should also state that we have not been able to verify the clips are legitimate yet, so be sure to also take this with a grain of salt.

The Legend of Zelda set footage leaks

The first clip, linked below, apparently shows Ainsworth in costume as Link before the footage quickly cuts to Bragason dressed as Zelda. What’s particularly interesting about this is Link appears to be wearing a green tunic, while Zelda wears blue colours similar to her appearance in Breath of the Wild.

The second clip, seen below, shows a bit more of Bragason filming a scene as Zelda, and also appears to be sharing a scene with Severance actress Dichen Lachman.

Lachman has not been confirmed to have been cast in the film yet, but the leaked set footage shows her in costume sharing a scene with Bragason.

Her appearance suggests she’s playing Impa, a long-time character that has appeared as an ally to Zelda and Link many times over the course of the series.

Although Impa has been depicted as an elderly woman in some of her most famous appearances, the character has also appeared as a much younger, capable fighter in several games as well.

I doubt that Nintendo will release new casting information regarding the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie before The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases in cinemas next year. However, be aware that more leaks may follow these early video clips.
