Amazon UK has slashed the price of the Xbox Series S from £250 to just £199, making it the cheapest new-gen console by far this Christmas.

Even without a discount, Microsoft’s new-gen Xbox console has always been the most accessible option on the market when compared to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, making it the more attractive option for gamers on a budget. And with £51 knocked off the price, it just got a whole lot more attractive.

One of the best things about the Xbox Series S is that you’ll be able to play every generation of Xbox game immediately. That means you can get stuck into a classic like Fable or Halo 2, or enjoy one of the Xbox One’s best games.

But it’s worth noting for any newcomers out there that the Xbox Series S’ lower price, discount or not, does come at the expense of power. While the hardware is more than capable of running all the new-gen games currently available, it doesn’t boast the same speedy loading times and 4K resolutions available on the PS5 and Series X.

It's also an all-digital console, so if you happen to be a parent or grandparent who doesn't know much about games and you're reading this: please, do not buy physical media to go with the Xbox Series S. It can't use them!

The Series S has actually stirred up some debate this year, with some developers suggesting that the less powerful hardware is holding this generation of video games back. Not everyone agrees with this sentiment of course, and there’s no denying that the console itself is a lovely bit of kit - especially if you plan on streaming most of your games via Xbox Game Pass.

Amazon is also selling the Venom Charging Dock with rechargeable battery back for Series S/X for just under £12, and the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Gaming Headset for £109. Everything you need to really get in the game this Christmas, basically.
