Halo 5: Guardians developer 343 Industries might be recruiting for a brand new Halo game.

In a recent job listing on the Microsoft careers page (thanks, Windows Central, via GamesRadar+), the studio is advertising for a new senior producer to "help develop a new project in the Halo Universe."

The advert - which went live on 3 June and was spotted by Twitterer Klobrille - intimates that the full-time position is offering developers the "chance to work on one of the most exciting and creative intellectual properties in the industry with one of the industry's most talented teams".

While you'd be forgiven for thinking that this was 343 merely hiring someone to come work on Halo Infinite, it is worth noting that previous job listings posted by the studio pertaining to Infinite specifically mention the game by name, rather than describing it as a "new project". A similar post was advertised back in November, too - this one discovered via LinkedIn - seeking a lead producer "to help develop a new project in the Halo universe". Hmm. Sound familiar?

Here's hoping we'll find out what 343i's plans are sooner rather than later.

On the subject of fan-favourite shooters, do you think Borderlands was the most important shooter of its era?

"Today, it's clear that Borderlands was the most prescient shooter of its time," our recent article insists. "The concepts perfected here are now the backbone of entire business strategies for 2K, Activision, and Ubisoft. The only thing our story's missing, really, is a phase where we call Destiny and The Division not loot-shooters, but Borderlands-likes - in a similar manner to how all FPS games were briefly 'DOOM clones' in the early '90s wake of id's hit game."
