Fighting fans can get a taste of a legendary Street Fighter rival courtesy of a free demo for Fatal Fury: City of Wolves that has dropped on PC, PS5 and Xbox.
The Fatal Fury series is one of the longest-running fighting franchises, debuting in Neo Geo arcades in November 1991 before arriving on the home Neo Geo console a month later. Interestingly, it debuted four years after Street Fighter (1987) but a year before Mortal Kombat (1992).
The latest game in the series is Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, released in January 2026, which garnered a respectable 80 Metacritic score, though some players have criticised the game for its use of in-game monetisation. If you’re yet to check out Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, now is your chance.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’ free demo is out now
The demo is quite comprehensive, offering six playable characters and a variety of modes to give you a great indication of whether or not Fatal Fury: City of Wolves is worth your money.
The demo is currently only available on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is scheduled to be released sometime in late October 2026.
The six playable characters in the Fatal Fury: City of Wolves demo are:
- Terry Bogard
- Rock Howard
- Hotaru Futaba
- Preecha
- Vox Reaper
- Mai Shiranui

The playable modes in Fatal Fury: City of Wolves are:
- Arcade: Two matches from the prologue as Terry Bogard and Hotaru Futaba against the CPU.
- Classic Versus: Play PvCPU and CPU vs CPU. Sadly, PvP isn't available in this demo.
- Training: Train in four stages using any of the six playable characters

- Colour Edit: Customise the colours of the six playable characters.
Does Fatal Fury: City of Wolves have a story mode?
Yes, it does. "Strive for supremacy in EPISODES OF SOUTH TOWN, a single-player RPG mode!” reads the description of the mode.
Advert
“Introducing ‘Episodes of South Town’ (EOST) — a solo RPG adventure where you’ll square up against contenders under various fight conditions, earning XP and other rewards for your efforts.
“Level up your fighter, build out a diverse kit of skills, and dominate the opposition on your way to the top. Dreams and ambitions run rampant in South Town; now is the time to chase the city’s crown and carve a legend all of your own!”
Does your progress carry over into the full game?
Sadly not. The free Fatal Fury: City of Wolves demo is very much a standalone product. So you’ll have to restart, should you purchase the full game. Luckily, it’s not like you can make huge progress in the demo, so you won’t miss out on much in that respect.
