Star Wars May Have Quietly Canonised Darth Jar Jar, Here’s The Proof

He's real, I know it

Star Wars has been hiding an actual Darth Jar Jar somewhere in its vast galaxy, and I hope to God we see it one day.

We all know the memes; the Star Wars prequels are a vastly more entertaining trilogy when you watch them with the headcanon that Jar Jar was a secret Sith lord the entire time.

Over the years, Disney has slowly gotten in on this joke by making him an alternate universe character in one of the LEGO animations, and Fortnite made him an unlockable skin during its collaboration with the IP earlier this year.

While Jar Jar Binks likely wasn’t a Sith lord, we can't rule it out completely as there is evidence that a gungan was at some point, and it’s canon.

For those who paid close attention to Andor Season 2, you may have spotted this evidence in Luthen’s shop of trinkets where a gungun skull can be seen in one of the displays.

Now before you get too excited, no this probably isn’t Jar Jar Binks. While we don’t know what canonically happened to him after Palpatine took control of the Republic, there are loads of other gungans it could be instead.

Upon closer inspection of the skull though, you’ll notice Sith markings dotted across it, which are actually references to the Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic games, specifically the Sigil of Darth Revan’s empire. This doesn’t make Darth Revan canon, unfortunately; it’s likely just a tongue-and-cheek reference for gamers to spot.

The skull and its markings do suggest that there was once a gungan who was either a Dark side force wielder.

There are seemingly no rules for what kind of creatures can wield the force, so it’s not out of the question that a gungan could tap into its power at some point or other.

What Does This Mean For The Future?

Star Wars is slowly embracing more grounded stories, like The Mandalorian And Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter, but there are still plenty of upcoming projects featuring Jedi and Sith, like Ahsoka Season 2.

What I’m really hoping for in the future though is more stories set in the past, either the High Republic era or prior.

Star Wars: The Acolyte teased some interesting plot points and I’d have loved to see more, but what I’m really holding out for is something that delves into the origins of the force and the forming of the Jedi/Sith.
