Worrying MCU Theory Puts Steve Rogers in Thanos Role vs Doctor Doom

This would break so many hearts

Avengers: Doomsday is setting up a confrontation between Captain America and Doctor Doom, and I don’t think our star-spangled hero can win this time.

Steve Rogers was the undisputed MVP of the MCU for many years. While Iron Man cruised around in his protective suit and Thor channelled the power of gods, Steve had to get creative to stand a chance against some of the big bads threatening the Earth. With the help of a big ol' dose of Super Soldier Serum, of course.

It didn’t always work out, bless him, like the time he tried to choke out Ultron and when he was effortlessly clobbered by Thanos during the battle of Wakanda, and yet he always stood back up.

With the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser officially confirming his return it’s looking like he’ll play a vital role in the story, but MCU fans are fearing his fate will be more in-line with Thanos’ in the comics.

I’m sure we’ve all seen the famous comic panel where Doctor Doom flexes his power by ripping Thanos’ spine out of his body. And while that could be translated into the live-action film many are pondering the idea of Steve Rogers being Doom’s punching bag instead.

“Im betting Steve dies in the opening as a way to establish Doom as a threat”, theorised one MCU fan over on Reddit, which is a plausible idea given how the teaser has all the makings of an opening shot.

Steve having his peaceful life interrupted by Doom would set the stakes immediately, even more so if the other Avengers were told, or shown, what Doom had done to him.

“Honestly this would be the greatest fake out. Right up there with the idea that RDJ's Doom gets killed and replaced with the ‘real’ Doom,” added another fan.

The only issue I can see with this theory is the excellent shape Chris Evans has clearly gotten in for the film.

His physique was one of the biggest indications that he’s in the film and was just not telling us, and I don’t know if he’d go through all of that hard work for a mere five minutes of screentime.

I can definitely see him being used as some sort of trophy, though. Something Doom will present to the other Avengers in order to reduce morale, as aside from his physical attributes one of Captain America’s greatest powers was his ability to inspire others.

Hopefully we get a more substantial teaser soon. One that gives us a little more information but doesn’t give the whole game away.
