Avengers: Doomsday is about to kick off a multiversal war, and in war there are always casualties.
While the Russo Brothers have been careful as to not give too much away they have alluded to there being “a lot of death” in the final chapters of the multiverse saga, and unlike Avengers: Endgame it doesn’t sound like there’ll be a convenient snap that brings everyone back.
Marvel’s way out presumably lies in the end of Avengers: Secret Wars, which is rumoured to be rebooting the MCU to allow for new characters, stories and more.
Before we get there though, here are five characters we don’t expect to see at the end of Avengers: Doomsday, or Avengers: Secret Wars for that matter.
Steve Rogers’ Captain America
Starting off with a bit of a controversial one I know. Chris Evans is making his triumphant return to the MCU as seen in the first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, which leaked earlier this week.
Advert
While I’m happy to see him return I can’t help but wonder if it’s a clever bit of misdirection from Marvel Studios, and whether the opening hour of Avengers: Doomsday will see Doom publicly annihilate Captain Rogers to kill morale amongst the other Avengers. The Russo Brothers planned to have the alternate timeline Thanos hold Steve’s decapitated head prior to the final battle in Avengers: Endgame, maybe they’ll repurpose that idea here instead.

Johnny Storm (Human Torch)
Since Doctor Doom is famously a Fantastic Four villain I can’t imagine a world in which a member of Marvel’s first family doesn’t get killed-off during Avengers: Doomsday.
We see Doctor Doom interacting with Franklin Richards during the post-credit scene of Fantastic Four: First Steps, and we see the F4 space ship arrive during the post-credit scene of The Thunderbolts, suggesting what happened next wasn’t a friendly chat.
With so much at stake and given what we’ve seen of his character so far I can wholeheartedly see Johnny making some sort of sacrifice to save his family from Doom at some point in the film.
Most, if not all of the X-Men
Avengers: Doomsday is going to be the last hurrah for the Fox X-Men, and as such it only seems fitting that they all get a heroes’ death.
One or two might survive as I’m sure Marvel has plans for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine (he’ll be doing it until he’s 90) but for the most part I think this is it for our childhood heroes. At least they’ll be in comic accurate costumes.

Yelena Romanov
With the New Avengers confirmed to be one of the teams at play in the film I’m expecting one of them to be killed off, and out of all the choices I think it’s Yelena that could feasibly bite the dust first.
Despite having no powers Yelena’s strength is her leadership skills and like Johnny Storm I can see her sacrificing herself to save her newly founded family.
I also think her demise will be incredibly important, as the emotional impact could be what tips Bob over the edge and transforms him back into Sentry/Void.
Doctor Doom
This is a bold one but I don’t think Doctor Doom will survive his own film. We don’t know what his plan or motivations are yet but I’d imagine it has something to do with creating his own universe, or at least destroying all the rest.
I think we’re due another Avengers: Infinity War-style cliffhanger where Doom is defeated but only after the final steps of his plan come to fruition. Then when Avengers: Secret Wars kicks-off he can return, probably with some new, cosmic powers that saved his life and amped him up.
All of the above is purely speculative of course, and if I’m wrong I’m wrong. That said it’s fun to theorise and if even one of my guesses is right I’ll be grinning ear-to-ear in the cinema next year.
