Harry Potter fans have united over what can only be described as the perfect casting choice for a fan-favourite character in the upcoming TV series from HBO.

Without question, inspired by the popular novels, the Harry Potter movie franchise is one of the most beloved properties of a generation. So it’s understandable why some fans may be a bit apprehensive when it comes to the upcoming TV adaptation.

After all, whether it's Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, when a movie series gets it so right, remaking that product for a modern audience is always going to be tricky business.

While no casting choices have been officially announced by HBO or Warner Bros., fans have been casting the likes of Dumbledore and Voldemort.

Previous reports have claimed that Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein will be cast as the new Rubeus Hagrid and other reports claim that the new Professor Snape has been found, which, it’s fair to say, both have garnered a mixed reaction unlike this fan-casting.

“Nick Frost as Hagrid?” asked LastCohenBro. “Everyone is throwing in their picks for the HBO show. I had this thought for a while now and honestly, I can’t see anyone else being cast as Hagrid.”

To be honest, I think the conversation ends right now. After Nick Frost has been fan-cast as the new Hagrid, I don't want to see anyone else play the role. He’s got the look, the comedic timing and he’s a fantastic actor to boot.

“This is one of those very rare fan-casts that make me go ‘Well now, that has to happen’,” replied strider390.

“The late Robbie Coltrane leaves big shoes to fill (literally), but Nick Frost might be able to pull it off,” said MaderaArt.

“I was extremely worried about this particular role, until your suggestion - Nick would be amazing without a doubt,” exclaimed toxicshlock.

As you can already imagine, much of the Reddit thread agrees that Nick Frost should be the next Hagrid. We’ll just have to wait and see who does indeed fill those big shoes.

A precise release date hasn't been announced for the Harry Potter TV series but it’s due to land sometime in 2026.
