The Harry Potter HBO reboot has reportedly found its new Professor Severus Snape.

Outside of the main trio of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, it’s fair to argue that Professor Albus Dumbledore, Lord Voldemort and Professor Severus Snape are the other three most popular characters. So whoever is cast to play those roles in the HBO reboot has big shoes to fill.

We don’t know who will be cast in all of the major roles of the Harry Potter TV series at this time, but according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the role of Professor Severus Snape may have already been filled.

It is claimed that British actor Paapa Essiedu is being lined up for the role previously played by the brilliant and late Alan Rickman.

Essiedu is much younger than Rickman was upon taking on the role, so it would certainly be a younger take on Snape.

Much like Alan Rickman, Paapa Essiedu has a Royal Shakespeare background, so there’s no doubt he’d be able to bring the flamboyance of Professor Severus Snape and may capture his essence perfectly. Only time will tell.

Sectumsempra!

HBO is circling British actor Paapa Essiedu to play one of the hottest TV roles being cast this year. The 'I May Destroy You' actor is up for the role of Professor Severus Snape in HBO’s #HarryPotter TV series, multiple sources tell THR https://t.co/mDHDnUpZOD pic.twitter.com/NeQWLaHOZS

But let’s be honest, it doesn't matter who’s cast to play the role of Professor Severus Snape, no one could ever replace Alan Rickman and perhaps this is the reason why Warner Bros. may be attempting a different and more youthful direction for the popular character.

Of course, this is mere speculation at this time and we should take all rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. We’ll keep you posted should we learn more.

The Harry Potter HBO series does not have a release date but it is expected to premiere sometime in 2027.

Hopefully, we’ll get a confirmed release date and information on casting in the coming months.
