Harry Potter fans united over our new Dumbledore for HBO reboot

Harry Potter fans united over our new Dumbledore for HBO reboot

He would be an excellent choice

In what could be a rare turn of events, Harry Potter fans are mostly in agreement as to who should play the next Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO series.

In the Harry Potter movies, Professor Albus Dumbledore was played brilliantly by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.

Both are sadly no longer with us, so whoever comes in to fill Dumbledore's shoes certainly has a big chasm to fill.

The Harry Potter TV series was announced in 2023 but at this time, we knew very little about it, other than it will have a modern setting and will once more take us back to the mystical Hogwarts Castle.

We also learned recently that Warner Bros. plans to release Hogwarts Legacy 2 and rather than taking place in the 1890s like the first game, it could coincide with the HBO reboot and have a modern setting.

Warner Bros. is yet to confirm the cast of the Harry Potter series but it seems fans on Reddit are mostly in agreement that Mark Rylance (Ready Player One, Dunkirk, The BFG) should be the next Professor Albus Dumbledore after the supposed casting was reported on by Variety.

“I don't know how he'll hold up against the film portrayal but Mark Rylance is in that group of actors that if I hear he was cast in anything, I'll go, 'Yeah, alright. Sounds good'," said tetoffens.

“Rylance has the kind eyes that Dumbledore should have but Gambon didn't really have. And not much needs to be said about his acting abilities. I think he'll be an upgrade,” claimed Hoenirson.

“Mark Rylance is a fantastic actor... It'll be hard to replace Michael Gambon/Richard Harris (RIP to both), but this is a solid choice,” MuptonBossman suggested.

“Phenomenal choice. I can see him pulling off both the aloof, twinkle-eyed grandpa side of Dumbledore and the darker, murkier side as well,” agreed hanburgundy.

There is currently no confirmed release date for the Harry Potter TV series but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2026.
