Ghost of Tsushima is getting a live-action movie, and while details on the production are vague at this time, we’re taking a look at the need-to-know details we’ve learned so far.
Released on the PlayStation 4 in 2020 before being ported to PlayStation 5 and PC, Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch Productions is, hands down, one of my favourite games in recent history.
Without giving too much away, just in case you’ve not played it, Ghost of Tsushima tells the tale of Jin Sakai, a young samurai raised in nobility and living by a strict samurai code that warriors live and die to.
However, when his home of Tsushima island is invaded, Jin is forced to adapt and go against everything that he has learned to not only save those whom he loves but also every person in his homeland, with its story gripping me from start to finish.

On top of that, the combat is very satisfying, it has immersive exploration and even when being played on a base PlayStation 4, Ghost of Tsushima still looks gorgeous to this day.
What Do We Know About the Ghost of Tsushima Movie?
Announced by Sony in 2021, the Ghost of Tsushima live-action movie is directed by John Wick’s Chad Stahelski.
Chad Stahelski has previously stated that he wants his live-action movie to look as beautiful as the video game, and that he’s looking at The Last of Us adaptation from HBO as an inspiration with respect to honouring its source material.
In 2023, Chad Stahelski revealed that a script had been written, and being a fan of Akira Kurosawa, the live-action Ghost of Tsushima movie will take some inspiration from the late, great, famed director of Japanese samurai movies.
In 2024, it was rumoured that Hiroyuki Sanada, who has played leading roles in the likes of Westworld, John Wick Chapter 4 and the fantastic TV series, Shōgun, to name a few, is being lined up to play Jin’s uncle, Lord Shimura.
What’s more, the English-speaking actor who played Jin Sakai, Daisuke Tsuji, has declared his interest in reprising his role in the live-action movie.
You may even be interested to know that Chad Stahelski hasn't ruled out a Ghost of Tsushima TV series that would co-exist alongside the upcoming movie.

Does the Ghost of Tsushima Movie Have a Release Date?
Unfortunately, news on the Ghost of Tsushima movie has been quiet in recent months, and fans are desperate for an update.
The production of the movie had been delayed by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes. While no release date has been announced, the Ghost of Tsushima movie is expected to arrive sometime between 2026 to 2027.
We’ll keep you posted when the official release date for the Ghost of Tsushima live-action adaptation drops.
