It’s safe to say that when it comes to live-action adaptations inspired by video games, it’s not always been sunshine and roses but in recent years, it seems those fortunes have turned a positive corner.

Being a diehard Resident Evil fan, it pains me that out of all the live-action adaptations we’ve had, not a single one has done the iconic Capcom survival horror series the justice it deserves. However, adaptations such as HBO’s The Last of Us and Amazon Studios’ Fallout have shown that miracles can happen if the quality of production and respect for the source material is there.

Check out the Ghost of Tsushima trailer below!

In 2021, it was confirmed that a live-action movie inspired by the PlayStation title Ghost of Tsushima is in the works and John Wick’s Chad Stahelski will direct it. At this time, we know very little about the live-action adaptation but we do know that director Chad Stahelski wants the Ghost of Tsushima movie to look as beautiful as the game.

As for casting, we’re left as much in the dark as a stealthy Shinobi warrior sneaking in the shadows. Actor Andrew Koji who plays the protagonist Jin Sakai in the video game has previously stated that he’d love to reprise his role in the movie and the actor who provided the likeness to the video game character, Daisuke Tsuji has also thrown his name into the hat.

At this time, no casting choices have been announced but since we learned that a Ghost of Tsushima movie is in the works, a name on many fans' lips to play the uncle of Jin Sakai, Lord Shimura is Shōgun and Mortal Kombat actor, Hiroyuki Sanada.

According to an industry insider within the video game realm, DanielRPK, claims that PlayStation Productions are in talks to hire the services of Hiroyuji Sanada to play the aforementioned Lord Shimura and if this report is true, there'd be no casting choice more perfect than he.

While we should always take unconfirmed reports with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise, casting Hiroyuji Sanada not only makes sense given that he’s an amazing actor but he also has a connection with Chad Stahelski having worked with him in John Wick 4.

Hopefully, PlayStation Productions will reveal new details on the Ghost of Tsushima adaptation at some point this year, because we’re all eager to learn more. As for the video game itself, Ghost of Tsushima is out now on PC and PlayStation.
