Capcom has already confirmed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to launch on 25 September, 2026, but some fans are convinced that it could release a few weeks earlier.
As we’ve seen from this year’s Summer Game Fest, there are a tonne of games launching in September to avoid clashing with the November release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
From Silent Hill: Townfall to Control Resonant, there’s simply too much noise happening in September that’s going to make some games slip through the cracks.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been given a release date of 25 September officially by Capcom, but new evidence suggests that it could be coming much earlier than expected.

Some eagle-eyed fans have spotted a new listing for Onimusha: Way of the Sword on PNP Games, a Canadian games retailer, which lists the game as releasing on 4 September, 2026 (thanks, GamesRadar).
This is a whole three weeks before the announced release date, possibly hinting at an incoming announcement that Capcom may shift the date slightly to avoid clashing with a few other heavy hitters coming that week.
In the week commencing 21 September, an estimated 11 other games aside from Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released.
These games include the likes of Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Hot Wheels Infinite Rush. New ports of Dune: Awakening and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition have also been confirmed for that week.
So, it’s safe to say the week of 21 September is a pretty competitive week, which may be why Capcom has possibly eyed an early September launch instead.

That’s not to say that earlier in the month is much of a breeze either. Between 31 August and 4 September, we’re also getting games like The Blood of Dawnwalker and Orbitals.
So, while it’s a little less busy, it's still pretty competitive for a publishing giant like Capcom to squeeze in a release. However, it might allow the game some room to breathe where its main competition will be The Blood of Dawnwalker, as opposed to half a dozen other AAA games in the latter half of the month.

Releasing in early September also leaves more room for visibility before all the other big AAA releases come out, rather than after everything has already been released and potential players have already bought as much as their monthly budget allows. It should mean stronger week one sales.
Still, since Capcom hasn’t confirmed a date change yet for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt for now. The PNP Games listing is still up, and a correction has not been issued yet since this was first spotted earlier this week.
So that is all to say that this may be true, or may not. We’ll await further updates from Capcom to confirm whether this is the case.
