If you were watching Gamescom’s Opening Night Live last night, you might have spotted this exciting trailer for an upcoming soulslike– although you may not have noticed that it’s actually the fourth entry in an ongoing franchise.

If you’ve ever wished that the grim, foreboding world of Dark Souls felt a little bit more like Ghost Of Tsushima, then you should probably keep an eye on this extremely bleak looking soulslike.

Swords of Legends, or Gujian 4 as it will assumedly be known as in China, is a slick looking hack and slash title from developer Aurogon Shanghai and publisher Wangyuan Shengtang, developed entirely in Unreal Engine 5.

Although the game was shown off at Gamescom last night during an earlier segment, the trailer for Swords of Legends dropped about three days ago.

Pre-release trailers are obviously very difficult to take at face value, but even I have to admit that the gameplay we did get to see looks absolutely incredible. The bit where the main character jumped off the spear to attack someone is probably the coolest thing I saw during the entirety of Gamescom ONL.

According to Gematsu’s Sal Romano, this one will be coming to consoles and PC at an unspecified date in the future (I'm unsure if that means it'll be featured on the next generation of home consoles though).

Over on the r/Games subreddit, comments mostly just seem to be excited for this one based on their experiences with Guijan 3.

“Gujian 3 was kind of a sleeper hit for me. Expected nothing going into it and was pleasantly surprised”, commented user Rhaigon666.

“I really wish they would port Gujian 3 to consoles, I never got to finish it because my computer pooped out. And also localize 1 and 2!” replied user Stuglle.

Hopefully, if Swords of Legends is a success in the West, we’ll get those console ports eventually.

Until then, you’ll just have to wait for Guijan 4 to drop… whenever that will be.
