A new RPG in development looks like a mix of Skyrim and Dark Souls, and I already can’t wait to see more.
As two of the most popular action RPGs of all time, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Dark Souls have had a lot of influence over game developers in the last decade.
Even in 2025, we’re getting new games that take inspiration from both, and may even be considered spiritual successors to those titles.
THQ Nordic has revealed Fatekeeper, an action RPG played from first-person perspective in which you explore a dark fantasy world, and must master all manner of combat if you want to survive.

Being able to balance melee and magic is a crucial part of exploring Fatekeeper’s twisted world. Enemies have their own distinct patterns, strengths and weaknesses, so you need to adapt your skills depending on the type of enemy you’re squaring up against.
Melee combat is described as “reactive” by the developer, meaning your various attacks and defense skills may have a counter you need to adapt to. It also references spells you can utilise, offering ranged alternatives to melee combat.

“Venture into a handcrafted world where ruins whisper of past cataclysms,” reads the official description for Fatekeeper. “Master the art of sword and sorcery and forge your path with relics, spells and choices that shape who you become in this first-person RPG.
“While Fatekeeper follows a focused narrative path, the world invites exploration. From ancient battlegrounds, vast underground caverns and serene forests to crumbling sanctuaries forgotten by time, each area rewards curiosity with hidden lore, forgotten relics, and unexpected encounters.
“Discover, loot, and master a wide variety of weapons, armor, and artifacts. Customize your loadout to suit your playstyle, and experiment with powerful combinations to overcome increasingly challenging enemies. Every item matters—and the right gear can be the difference between victory and ruin.”
There’s no set release date yet for Fatekeeper, but we do know it's coming to early access on PC this winter.
