Skyrim-like 2026 RPG stunner Gothic 1 Remake teases new free content coming soon

Gothic 1 Remake has teased some additional free content coming to the game later this year.

In a thank you video released earlier this week celebrating the warm post-launch reception to Gothic 1 Remake, THQ Nordic teased some new free DLC that is coming to the game later this year.

The video, presented by Alkimia Interactive studio head and game director Reinhard Pollice, reveals that Gothic 1 Remake will be getting several new pieces of free content over the next few months.

The first of these new features is a photo mode, allowing players to carefully pose and construct photos that can then be shared on social media.

Pollice also announced that in addition to photo mode, new modes which feature alternative progression mechanics and mod support will also be added to the game over time.

Gothic 1 Remake will also be getting Marvin mode, a term that fans of the franchise will know as the test mode for cheats and other exploits that was available in the original game.

With Marvin mode activated, players could activate the console which allowed them to change game values such as the health, mana, and damage output of your character. You could also spawn in enemies and NPCs, or teleport to any point on the map.

There aren’t many details on what Gothic 1 Remake’s Marvin mode will look like, but we imagine it’ll be similar to how it was in the original game. With the game now also on console, it’ll probably be redone to suit controller users.

Gothic 1 Remake will get these new free updates over the course of the next few months

These new features will be added to the game over the next few months as free updates, though Pollice has not given a specific timeline for when.

In the same video, Pollice also teased a new game in the Gothic series, which will likely be announced at next year’s THQ Nordic Showcase. Although Pollice did not say what the game will be, rumours are pointing towards it being a remake of Gothic 2.

“Thank you for going on this journey with us and for keeping this wonderful world of Gothic alive. We are here for the long run. This means that every piece of feedback will be considered and be very important for the future,” Pollice says in the video.

Gothic 1 Remake launched in June 2026, and featured mixed reviews from critics and players. While fans of the classic game appreciated the updates given to this RPG classic, the high difficulty and technical aspects were off-putting to some.

However, many agreed that the story, atmosphere, and quests were of considerably high quality, which makes sense considering the original Gothic is often cited as one of the greatest RPGs of all time, including one of the best games like Skyrim you can play.
