These Pokémon Pancakes Look Too Good To Eat

Check out these incredible Pokémon pancakes come together from start to finish - they're real (and delicious) masterpieces.

Happy Pancake Day/Shrove Tuesday/Celebratory Food Day to all those who celebrate. Hey, even if you don’t, it’s still a very good excuse to shovel some pancakes down you like there’s no tomorrow, which is precisely my plan for this evening. You’re welcome to join me.

So, how fare your pancake making skills? If you ask me, if you manage to get at least one pancake out of the pan and onto a plate without it being burnt to a crisp, that’s pretty successful. Even better if it didn’t fall on the floor when you flipped it. Or get stuck to the ceiling. I feel like I’m exposing myself here slightly. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that no matter how good your regular pancakes are, I feel like they’re probably going to pale in comparison to these incredible Pokémon pancakes.

These can only be described as art, right? They come from the talented hands (and pan) of Dancakes, who’s made all sorts of other amazing pancake creations before, too, including a bunch of Disney and Star Wars characters. Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that not only is the linework basically perfect, but there’s even shading?! My brain can’t comprehend the planning that must go into doing these.

It’s definitely the perfect time to tuck into some Pokémon pancakes - last Sunday (27 February) marked Pokémon Day, and we got our first look at the brand new Gen 9 games which will be arriving on Switch later this year. If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve heard the news already, but just in case you haven’t, they’re called Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and seem to be set in a region based on Spain.

These new games will feature some semi-open world elements, such as wild Pokémon appearing on the overworld, but you won’t be able to just toss balls at them from a distance to catch them this time - you’ll have to fight them like you did in all the games prior to Legends: Arceus.

Perhaps most excitingly (to me, anyway), we even got introduced to the new starter Pokémon - there’s the Water type duck Quaxly, the Grass type kitty Sprigatito, and the incredible, the glorious, the adorable Fire type crocodile, Fuecoco. I’m not biased, what are you talking about?

We don’t know the name of the new region yet, but we’ll almost certainly be finding out more soon, since the game is set to release before the end of the year (probably November, if it follows the usual mainline Pokémon game release timings). It’s all to look forward to, and I’m sure I speak for the vast majority of fans when I say we can only hope that Sprigatito keeps all four legs firmly on the ground.
