I’m sure I speak for us all when I say that Pedro Pascal is the perfect Joel. The entire cast of The Last of Us is stellar, for that matter, but our main guy does an exceptional job of portraying everyone’s favourite grumpy smuggler.

It’s not at all surprising - Pascal has never starred in a show rated under 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. He seriously never misses. Despite that though, in a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, he revealed that he was originally concerned that The Last of Us would be a flop.

Take a look at the trailer for the sixth episode of The Last of Us, ‘Kin’, below.

“I knew the game was a really big deal, and I was really scared and just presumed that the adaptation wouldn’t work. Not because it’s been tricky adapting video games into television shows or movies or anything like that, but because, I dunno, everybody loved it so much,” he said. “When I saw all of the story illustrations for The Mandalorian, I was like ‘This is gonna be a hit, no worries’, but I guess in this one you have to see my face.”

Host Seth Meyers then weighed in to say that he feels the show is “very well cast”, and pulled out a picture comparing Joel in the game and show. After a slight pause, Pascal points to the image of Joel from The Last of Us Part I, and simply says: “Dude, he’s hot.”

While I’m sure that most fans will completely agree, I daresay that even more would highlight Pascal’s portrayal of the character as their favourite. Back when the show first aired, the internet immediately began to thirst over “daddy” Joel, and that’s not really stopped since. For good reason.

Fear not, fans of Pedro Pascal’s face - the next episode of The Last of Us is almost upon us. It’s set to air on Sunday 19 February in the U.S., and on Monday 20 February in the UK.
