Star Wars New Open-World RPG Has Gamers Losing Their Minds

We can't quite believe what we're seeing

We've actually been quite lucky with Star Wars games over the last decade or so, mainly thanks to some solid single-player experiences in games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, but there's always room for more adventures in the galaxy far, far away.

With no release date in sight for the long-confirmed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, it'd be good to have something else to do in the meantime. Fortunately, that's where Starfield and it's amazing community of modders come in clutch.

There's no doubt that Starfield was a bit of a divisive game at launch, with many feeling that it failed to live up to the vast build-up given to it, mostly by Bethesda's director Todd Howard. Since then, the developer has patched it into a much better state, but it's still the community who are showing just how brilliant it can be.

Star Wars Genesis is a modding project that turns the game into an absolute treat for fans of the franchise. Though technically a modlist, it's difficult to overstate how ambitious this total conversion is, with the main developer adding their own mods, and working together with other authors, to make sure everything slots together in one seamless package.

It features many of the most iconic locations from the movies and TV shows, including Coruscant, Mos Eisley, Tatooine and Mandalore. You can explore those at your leisure and play exactly as you wish. Want to work with the rebels? You can do that. If you'd prefer to live out your days as a solo operator, a la Han Solo before A New Hope, then that's also fine. You can even join the Empire and bring rack and ruin to millions.

The game features over 30,000 altered voice lines, a unique main story questline and a total conversion of absolutely everything, from weapons to droids. There are also over 300 repeatable sandbox missions to jump into, as well as a new cast of main characters, and all of the iconic Star Wars ships to collect.

The only big omission from the game is lightsabers, which won't be added "until Bethesda releases an animation framework and we get better melee animations and a dodge keybind," according to the mods author.

In even better news, it's very easy to download and install, with everything you need available as one convenient package from the Star Wars Genesis website, with the only caveat being that you will need the Shattered Space DLC.
