Despite first being released back in 2017, one action shooter game has had quite the resurgence lately, leading to news that a sequel may be on the way.
The game is Star Wars Battlefront II, a multiplayer action shooter and the fourth main instalment in the Star Wars Battlefront series.
Developed by DICE, the story takes place between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens and follows Iden Versio, commander of an Imperial special ops strike who ultimately defects to the New Republic.

Featuring both a single-player and multiplayer mode, Star Wars Battlefront II was met with mixed reviews with criticism mainly centered around the addition of microtransactions. So much so that EA ultimately removed them from the game.
Despite this, Star Wars Battlefront II has had a resurgence over the past month, and as a result, an all-time peak of 18k players was met overnight according to Twitter user AZZATRU.
However, the good news does not end there.
According to a former developer who previously worked on the Battlefront franchise, Star Wars Battlefront III may be on the cards.

This news comes after the developer took to r/StarWarsBattlefront to share the following exciting news.
“Me, and having heard around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to get the gang back together,” user Matshelge shared.
Now that Battlefront II has gained a surge of popularity, this would be the perfect time to announce the much-requested sequel.
Despite this not being an official confirmation by any means, fans are still excited and took to the Culture Crave Twitter account to share their thoughts.

“The Battlefront 3 propaganda might actually work. We need to hop back on Battlefront 2 and show ‘em we want it too”, user Sakatoyaa shared.
It remains to be seen if Star Wars Battlefront III will finally come to fruition but with the series’ popularity growing during recent weeks, this would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
