The Star Wars Battlefront series is about as close as we'll ever get to being able to live out the great wars of the galaxy far far away, many of which defined our childhoods with their iconic mixture of blaster and lightsaber combat.
Unfortunately it seems as though we aren't going to get Battlefront 3 anytime soon, so we're stuck with the limited options that we've been playing for years at this point.
In better news, Star Wars Battlefront II has a very active modding community who continues to push the game forward without the intervention of the developer Electronic Arts, who aren't too interested in bringing us new content at this point.
Now, one mod has debuted that really is a bit of a game changer, and it might be the closest thing that will ever get to a true sequel at this point.
Battlefront II Kyber Mod Enters Open Beta and It’s Already Very Popular
As first reported by Kotaku, a new mod has just entered open beta that's proving to be a massive hit with fans.

KYBER is a community-hosted multiplayer game launcher for EA’s Star Wars Battlefront II that is largely designed to demonstrate the potential popularity of a full sequel for the game.
The mod has been in development for several years, with the team at Armchair Developers really dialling up their approach after the main game saw a huge resurgence in players over the last year or so.

In a trend that we have been seeing more and more of in recent years, the end of beloved TV series Andor brought the Battlefront Reddit community together.

The goal they set was to convince EA and the powers that be that there is the appetite for another game in the series.
They managed to triple the game’s previous peak player count on Steam, and kickstarted this mod into really accelerating development.
The mod itself adds a lot of highly requested features to the base game, including a spectator mode, Discord integration and the always fun proximity voice chat.
It also adds a ton of cool characters from other Star Wars properties, including everyone’s favourite Cal Kestis.

All of that exciting stuff has resulted in 61,169 unique players in the first 48 hours of the open beta, according to the developer, and it’s a great sign that the mod has every chance of maintaining a sizeable audience moving forward.
