The Star Wars Battlefront series has been dead for quite some time, and we think all gamers can agree it deserves better.

Those who grew up with the OG versions on Xbox and PlayStation 2 will have fond memories of storming the Jedi Temple, halting the Rebels on Hoth and taking the fight online in the early days of multiplayer.

When Electronic Arts took the IP it brought the Battlefront series back and while the first game was decent enough, its sequel Star Wars Battlefront II was abysmal at launch.

Over time though it became one of the best multiplayer games going, only for EA to just…end it.

Years later, we’re still waiting for Star Wars Battlefront III but you don’t have to wait any longer. A Star Wars Battlefront III alternative exists on PC and it’s free-to-play.

How To Play A Star Wars Battlefront 3 Rival On PC

Star Wars fans around the world have been patiently waiting for EA to do something else with the franchise and new releases like Battlefield 6 only prove how badly we need another sequel set in a galaxy far, far away.

Hop on your PC though and you’ll find Kyber, a custom-built multiplayer revival of Star Wars Battlefront II that adds an avalanche of new content to the game, all free of course.

Starting this May, the project will launch Battlefront Resurgence 2026, which is confirmed to add “new multiplayer content” for those who have the Battlefront+ mod installed to their game.

Spread the word. Battlefront Resurgence 2026 begins in May.

It’ll bring new characters, classes and skins to the game allowing you to play as more iconic characters from the Star Wars universe.

For example, the MagnaGuard from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith will be playable, seemingly borrowing a few moves from Darth Maul if the gameplay is anything to go off.

The Mandalorian is another excellent addition, and just in time for the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu next month.

Other content Kyber introduces includes: Dedicated servers, auto mod downloads, moderator tools, server browser, and the most impressive of all, proximity chat. With the latter enabled Star Wars Battlefront II would easily give games like ARC Raiders a run for its money.

If you’re interested in giving Kyber a go for yourself, you can do so through its official X page, where instructions on what to download can be found.

When Is The Real Star Wars Battlefront 3 Coming Out?

It’s only a matter of time until an official Star Wars Battlefront III gets greenlit at EA. The popularity of the franchise hasn’t diminished over the years and it’s moved on quite significantly since support for Battlefront II ended, so there are plenty of ideas floating around for new characters, settings and mechanics for a sequel.

The success of Battlefield 6 is also a clear indication that gamers want more large-scale multiplayer shooters.

Slap a Star Wars skin over Battlefield 6’s graphical fidelity, customisation and destruction and you’d have all the makings of another banger Star Wars game.

In the meantime though singleplayer games are still on the way, like a third Star Wars: Jedi game.
