The Star Wars Battlefront series feels dead and buried despite its popularity, but this free alternative will scratch your itch for more intergalactic warfare.

Whether Electronic Arts has plans for a Star Wars Battlefront III is currently unknown but God knows the fans want one.

Star Wars Battlefront II had a rough start but over time it became one of the best multiplayer Star Wars games going so it was heartbreaking to see it cut down in its prime.

Fortunately Star Wars fans are both resilient and resourceful, like one team that's made a successor title in the last game you’d expect.

The Free Star Wars Game Made For Battlefront Hopefuls

The Star Wars Battlefront games did a lot right but what they truly mastered was the scale of conflicts.

We’re hoping a potential Star Wars Battlefront III will give us larger battlefields with more players and more roles to play as.

This free game is unfortunately limited by its engine; it's a bitesized example of what we mean, and it’s made entirely with UEFN.

UEFN is basically a Fortnite editing tool and with the recently added Star Wars assets fans have made some truly remarkable creations.

The latest is basically a new spin on Star Wars Battlefront and gameplay footage of its Jakku map has been shared on X by LENAGLITCH.

Gameplay showed the player’s character dressed up as a member of the Resistance, fighting off First Order stormtroopers controlled by other players.

Players will be able to fight on the ground with blasters plucked from the Fortnite X Star Wars crossover event as well as take to the skies in an X-Wing.

Those who fancy cosplaying as a mandalorian can do so with a jetpack too, and it actually looks more fun than what we got in the Battlefront games…

It’s an impressive creation and there’s bound to be updates planned if it’s successful.

Fortnite’s gameplay lends itself surprisingly well to a Battlefront-style game and it’ll be great to get our hands on those Star Wars collaboration items again.

They’re bound to return through another event in the future but UEFN means we can enjoy them all-year round, not just when Epic Games chooses to unlock them.

When Is This Free Star Wars Game Dropping?

May The Fourth is right around the corner so you’re probably hoping this freebie lands in time for the big day.

Luckily for you it does. It’ll be available for all Fortnite players on 1 May. All you’ll need is the map code when it goes live to jump in and try it for yourself.

Sure it’s not the Star Wars Battlefront III we’ve been waiting for but it’ll do in the interim, especially when it’s not something we have to pay for.

Mark your calendars for 1 May then and if for whatever reason it’s not your cup of tea there are plenty of other fan-made creations to try instead.
