Star Wars Film Teases Major Character Death, We're Not Okay

Don't you dare

The Mandalorian has easily been one of the better Star Wars TV series in recent years, introducing the audience to a host of characters who now form a major part of the wider Star Wars lore.

So it's no surprise that two of them are set to make their big screen debut next year as the titular characters in The Mandalorian and Grogu, with Pedro Pascal retaining the lead role this time around.

The plot will follow the two characters as they offer to work to protect the New Republic and the principles of the Rebellion, after the fall of the Empire. It's a compelling enough premise, and one that leaves the door open for plenty of startling story beats, but if a new synopsis of the movie is to be believed, we might be about to get something genuinely quite distressing.

Star Wars Japan Confirms Love and Loss in The Mandalorian and Grogu

As first reported by Gamesradar, over on X (formerly Twitter), a post shared on the official Star Wars Japan page promised fans that the new story set in the Galaxy, Far Far Away is going to be one of "love and loss".

Now, obviously everyone loves love, but what is this loss that they are referring to and please god don't let it mean that we're going to lose Grogu at such a young age.

Responses on another post sharing the update in English were particularly startled, with many panicking about which of their favourite characters may not make it through to the credits at the end.

"Well, I think it's safe to say the loss isn't Din as he'll be part of Dave's Mando-verse movie but this is definitely interesting!" one comment read.

"Okay what's the love and LOSS that they speak of?" another added.

A third even shared a disturbing theory that could have far reaching consequences for Star Wars moving forward, saying: "Maybe Thrawn finishes what Gideon failed to do and wipes out Mandalore. That would explain their absence in the sequels. Bye Bo, the Armourer, and the rest. The loss of a planet, a people & culture... leaving Grogu (and Din) to rebuild, possibly elsewhere like Peridea."

Whatever direction the films do decide to go in, the pending threat that we could lose Grogu at any moment is enough to panic both myself, and the larger Star Wars fan base.

Here's hoping he lives a long Yoda-esque life and fulfills all of his adorable dreams instead.
