The live-action Harry Potter series from HBO has cast an “outstanding” DCU star who should play a pivotal role in season two.
We’re just four months away from the premiere of the live-action Harry Potter reboot on HBO Max, and despite its first season not being out yet, the role of Gilderoy Lockhart has been cast, and it’s gone to a popular DCU and X-Men star.
The role of Gilderoy Lockhart has been given to Nicholas Hoult, who not only played Lex Luthor in 2025’s Superman, but also Dr Henry Philip "Hank" McCoy, aka Beast, in the X-Men movies. The role will begin in the second season of the Harry Potter series.
Who is Gilderoy Lockhart?
Without giving too much away, just in case we accidentally reveal some spoilers for the live-action series, Gilderoy Lockhart is an egotistical wizard and author. Let’s also say that not all is what it seems with this conniving character. That being said, it will be interesting to see if any changes are made to this personality in the reboot compared to the movies and novels.
What are Harry Potter fans saying about this casting?
“He’s outstanding in every role with so much range. Phenomenal choice,” declared Redditor dasfoster.
“The casting has been insane on this show. He’ll crush it,” said Overall-Scientist846.

“He is a phenomenal actor. For a quarter of a century. That’s a really good booking, and I can’t wait to see his interpretation,” added approvedcelery.
“Hoult has some damn good performances! This guy has range like Robert Pattinson,” commented serialkiller24.
“Feels so weird to discuss S2’s casting choices without even seeing the first season yet,” said ctlattube, with uhohmaddy replying, “Filming for S2 starts early next month!”

While it's too early for a season two release date, it’s expected to arrive during very late 2027, going into early 2028.
