Star Wars: Battlefront quietly returns from the dead

Somehow, Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) has returned. The first/third-person shooter from Electronic Arts hadn’t really gone anywhere but over the past few weeks it’s seen a resurgence in players.

Star Wars in general has had a good couple of months recently, with Star Wars Celebration 2025 announcing and teasing several upcoming films and TV shows, like The Mandalorian And Grogu and Maul: Shadow Lord.

Andor Season 2 has also been a success on Disney+

This month Star Wars Battlefront 2 hit a concurrent player count of 6,000 on Steam, the highest it’s been in a good while.

I was one of those players funnily enough and while it was still a little difficult to find a full match on Xbox it was surprising to see so many still playing the game after all of these years.

It likely helped that the game always has a special XP weekend around 4 May to celebrate Star Wars day, but then again May is just a big month for Star Wars in general.

I wish the same could be said about Star Wars Battlefront: Classic Collection, which suffered an abysmal launch and never really recovered despite several updates and patches to fix its long list of issues.

Today there are only 1,600 players in the game at the time of writing, but it’s early morning in the UK so this might go up as the day goes on.

If you haven’t played Star Wars Battlefront 2 in a while it’s worth jumping back into for a few games, but if you’d like to try some other Star Wars games instead I’d wholeheartedly recommend the Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith game which you can get on Xbox for a steal.

You also can’t go wrong with Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and of course the Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic games.
