The Epic Games Store has refreshed its weekly free line-up and while the PC storefront may only be giving one title away instead of the usual two, it’s a game Baldur’s Gate 3 fans may enjoy.

Foretales is now officially available to claim for free on PC with the free offer period running from today, July 23, to July 30 at 4pm BST.

As always, all you need to do is head over to the Epic Games Store and hit download. Once claimed, the game is yours forever.

Only PC copies are available, but of course, you can enjoy PC games on adjacent devices like the hybrid Xbox ROG Ally or Ally X.

Foretales isn’t exactly the most generous offer we’ve seen from the Epic Games Store.

It commands an RRP of $19.99, although it is on offer on Steam for $2.99 until July 28, but you may as well grab it for free.

It’s probably not a title on your wishlist, but while it’s a very different offering to Baldur’s Gate 3, the two titles share a few things in common that may help boost your interest.

Both Baldur’s Gate 3 and Foretales are set in fantasy worlds, feature a focus on narrative, and introduce you to a sprawling cast of lovable characters.

Whereas Baldur’s Gate 3 plays out as a turn-based RPG though, Foretales is a story-driven card game, albeit with turn-based combat.

“A terrible curse is ravaging the realm, and the only one who can stop it is a small-time thief named Volepain,” begins the synopsis.

“The Weaver entrusted the instruments of creation to her children, the Nymphants. The Weaver put in the hands of her children the fate of the world’s creation and stability.

“The instruments of creation have the power to create and destroy the many worlds of Foretales. Discover the true goals of the Nymphants and the Cult or embrace the Maelstorm for eternity!”

With the apocalypse impending, it’s up to players to determine how Foretales’ characters spend their final hours.

The goal is to help everyone find a path to salvation but that’s not exactly an easy feat. There are many branching narrative paths with Foretales, boasting multiple endings too.

In addition to making key narrative choices, you’ll also partake in turn-based card combat at certain points in the story, again linking Foretales back to Baldur’s Gate 3.

Foretales,
Dear Villagers

The game is narrated by the brilliant Travis Willingham, who you may know for his work as Sephiroth in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, Phenomaman in Dispatch, or from Critical Role.

Foretales has proven a hit with players, hailed as “one of the best”

On Metacritic, Foretales only managed a score of 74 but players are slightly kinder with an 86% rating on Steam.

One player called it “one of the best video games ever made”, while another remarked, “This is a fun narrative game presented in the form of a card/resource management game; gameplay is simple and intuitive.”

According to How Long To Beat, it has a runtime of around 15 hours for the main story, 20.5 hours for the main story and side quests, or 32 hours for completionists, so there’s plenty for you to sink your teeth into.

You must claim Foretales before 4pm BST on July 30.
