The Star Wars: Battlefront series is one of the most beloved in gaming history and not just because it is set in everybody’s favourite galaxy far, far away.

First launched in 2004, Star Wars: Battlefront was an instant success and it was not long until it was followed up by Star Wars: Battlefront II in 2005.

The series was such a hit that the two games received a reboot in 2015 and 2017 respectively, showing that fans were craving the first and third-person shooter titles more than ever.

Basing a video game franchise on the Star Wars series was a genius idea and thanks to Battlefront’s success, many fans eagerly awaited a third instalment.

However, it never came and to this day, fans still plead for Star Wars: Battlefront III.

In recent years, it has been rumoured that EA wishes to shift its focus away from licensed IPs such as Star Wars to focus more on its internal franchises such as Battlefield, Apex Legends, and The Sims.

That being said, a recent report from Variety reveals that EA may just be going back on its word when it comes to Disney and Star Wars games.

According to EA president Laura Miele, other than Star Wars: Jedi 3, “a few other [games] haven’t been announced yet”.

Although Miele did not specify which games they were talking about, it was not long before fans got a whiff of the potential of a highly-anticipated sequel.

“Battlefront 3?!?!” The Star Wars Holocron Twitter account posted alongside a fingers crossed emoji.

“DICE, GIVE ME BF3, AND MY F**KING SOUL, MY HEART, AND MY LIFE IS YOURS,” another very enthusiastic user shared.

Going through the quote posts on social media just proves how much Star Wars: Battlefront III is being called for by fans so it would be a shame for EA not to push this franchise to its limits with at least one more entry.

It remains to be seen if the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise will live on so we all must cross those fingers and pray.
