Skyrim players can now enjoy a new free quest called What Remains, which will take you on a spiritual journey.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is home to many quest mods, and if you’ve already rinsed through the best ones then it’s time to take a look at the new ones coming out each and every week.

What Remains is a new mod by creator nimwraith, the modder behind other Skyrim quests like The Hunt for the Spectre, War’s Folly, and Once We Were Here.

This one is a smaller-focus quest where you meet The Fox, a talking animal who will tell you about an unknown man's life and death.

Through your various encounters with The Fox, you will be able to express your opinions on the life the man led. And with these conversations, you piece together The Fox's true identity.

Don't expect much here in terms of action or drama. Instead, the quest is a lot quieter and spiritual, and it should offer a nice break from the more action-packed quests the game has to offer.

What Remains Is A 'Vastly Different Experience' From Vanilla Skyrim

As nimwraith puts it, “I think this is one of my most unique mods to date and should offer a vastly different experience from what you're used to in Skyrim.”

Nimwraith’s mods typically always introduce a unique mechanic, and this one is no different.

What Remains features the slow unravelling of The Fox’s tale, where each dialogue choice you make during every encounter twists the story in fun ways.

The modder also says that you can install it mid-playthrough, and that it shouldn’t have any major conflicts with other mods.

To start the quest, head to the Forgotten Tomb which is located directly south of Dawnstar and east of Morthal. You’ll find the Fox there, and can begin speaking to him.

After that, you can progress the quest by waiting 12 hours between every encounter, at which point he’ll reappear and you can continue.

You can download What Remains now from the Nexus Mods page for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition.
