A brand new free mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has added a high level difficulty quest, perfect for those who have rinsed through all of the base game’s content.

Sagittarius22’s Dovahkiin and The Apprentice of Thuum is a mod released for the original version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which has now been ported over to the Special Edition by modder richardjohnsen.

Originally released in 2013, the mod saw over 18,000 unique downloads and 223,000 views, but it hasn’t been ported over to the Special Edition until now.

It adds a brand new lore-friendly quest to the game which allows you to teach the Thu’um (A.K.A. the “voice”) to one of your in-game followers.

The quest, described as having “high level difficulty”, tasks you with finding an ancient amulet which allows you to start teaching the Thu’um.

The mod’s high difficulty can be attributed to it featuring enemies which are between level 60–80, with dynamic bosses and dungeons which randomise on each playthrough. It should add a bit of spice to the questline in case you want to use it on repeat playthroughs.

This also includes a scripted final boss and cutscene, which are the centrepiece of the mod’s content.

How To Start The Dovahkiin And The Apprentice Of Thuum Quest In Skyrim

The only requirement to start the mod is you need to be able to shout, which can be done by completing Dragon Rising in the main quest. It also helps if you have the Dragonborn DLC installed, though it isn’t necessary.

Soon after unlocking shouts, you’ll get a letter from a courier which will begin the mod.

Play through the new quest, and as you finish it, you’ll be able to teach the Thu’um to any of your followers, including any that have been added from mods.

Once they have this ability, they’ll be able to use any shouts you have unlocked and will do it intelligently. For example, they’ll use a frost shout against an enemy with fire attributes.

The main caveat is that you can only teach this ability to one follower, and that will be locked for the remainder of your playthrough. So, be sure to choose wisely who you'd like to have this power.

If you’d like to download Dovahkiin and The Apprentice of Thuum for yourself, you can do so by heading over to Nexus Mods and grabbing it.

It’ll pair well with other Skyrim quest mods which are available for you to download for free.
