There are, I think we can all agree, to many video games these days.
Don't get me wrong. This is, on the whole, a Very Good Thing. For every new AAA shooter or 500 hour RPG, we get a cozy farming sim or a game about an awkward dinner conversation. Variety is the spice, and all that.
But with so much choice, it's easy for certain games to slip through the cracks.

One game that released towards the end of last year is a kind-of cross between Skyrim and Resident Evil, with a good pinch of The Witcher 3 and even a splash of Far Cry 3 in the mix.
Unfortunately, it didn't get as much attention as it deserved, given that it's a genuine banger. The good news is that it's free to download and try on Steam, something I would urge you to do if you're in the market for a new game.
The game in question is called The Axis Unseen, and was developed and published by Just Purkey Games.
Described as a "heavy metal horror game where you hunt monsters from folklore in an open world," The Axis Unseen is a gorgeous, brutal game that will more than scratch your Skyrim itch. That's because it was actually created by one of the developers who worked on the iconic Elder Scrolls title.

The Axis Unseen is only £20 at full price, but the demo should give you a good idea of how the game feels before you really commit.
The majority of Steam reviews are super positive, and I'm dead convinced this deserves to go down as one of 2024's hidden gems. And who doesn't love an underdog?
If this one flew under your radar last year, don't miss out; get that demo downloaded and see what you've been missing.
