ARC Raiders developer Embark Studios will be shutting down its previous game, The Finals, on PS4 next week.
Announced back in November last year, The Finals Season 9 will be the last season for players to enjoy on PlayStation 4, as Embark plans to sunset that edition of the game on 18 March 2026.
The announcement came only 11 months after the game’s release on PS4, leading to disappointed reactions from fans who hadn’t yet upgraded to current-gen systems.
“When Season 10 begins (18th of March, 2026), we'll be retiring THE FINALS on PlayStation 4 and focusing our support on current generation hardware,” Embark posted on X (formerly Twitter) last November.

“From that point on you'll need to play there to keep enjoying the game. Your progress and purchases will be stored in your Embark ID and will transfer to anywhere you choose to play. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who's been part of the PS4 community.”
The Finals Season 9 Will Be The Last One For The PS4 Version
While The Finals is a much different game from ARC Raiders, the title saw a bit of a resurgence in recent months following the success of ARC Raiders. With it being free to play, many have seen it as a great alternative to the 2025 extraction shooter.

Still, even though I imagine the playerbase on PS4 probably isn’t as high as it is on current-gen systems and PC, it’s a shame to see the game shutting down so soon.
If you’re thinking about switching platforms from PS4 to one which is still getting support, your progress will remain linked to your profile, provided you log in with your Embark ID and can successfully transfer it over to your new profile.
Even if you’re a big ARC Raiders fan, I’d still recommend checking out The Finals if you want something a little more fast-paced. The game focuses on class-based game modes where different teams compete against each other on a variety of maps, each one having destruction-based properties.
I wasn’t too keen on the game when it first launched, due to various performance and balancing issues, but I’d say it’s come a long way since its original launch back in December 2023.
It's not just The Finals which is seeing a shutdown this month, as it's also joined by Highguard and King Arthur: Legends Rise which also close down this week.
