As I’m sure you’ve now heard, Rockstar Games was recently subject to a major cyber attack, during which development footage of Grand Theft Auto VI was stolen and leaked online. Around 90 development clips were reportedly leaked alongside screenshots and source code. Rockstar have since confirmed the validity of the leaks, announcing that it has not affected any of their projects despite the huge disappointment it’s caused.
In terms of who was behind the attack, rumours pointed towards it being a UK based teenager who appeared in a GTA forum offering to negotiate with Rockstar. That rumour now seems very likely to be true as police have made an arrest.
Taking to Twitter, the City of London Police announced that they’d arrested a 17-year-old on suspicion of hacking. It wrote, “On the evening of Thursday 22 September 2022, the City of London Police arrested a 17-year-old in Oxfordshire on suspicion of hacking, as part of an investigation supported by the National Crime Agency’s National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU). He remains in police custody.”

Formally, the arrest has not yet been linked to the cyber attack on Rockstar Games but sources say that this is the case. Journalist Matthew Keys tweeted saying that a “source says it's connected to the hack on Rockstar Games and possibly Uber Technologies.” Keys also went on to note, “The 17-year-old hacking suspect was arrested in Oxfordshire and is believed to be connected to a group identifying itself as "Lapsus$," a group that organises primarily via Telegram channels.”
UPDATE: Police expected to give more details on arrest of 17-year-old Rockstar Games hacker later today, possible statement coming from the FBI later this morning/afternoon.

It’s believed that the investigation was completed in partnership with the FBI, the latter of whom may make a statement later today. We’ll be keeping an eye on further details.
