GTA 6 Delay Celebrated by Gamers, and We Get It

It does make sense if you think about it

The younger generation really did something right when they came up with the word “copium” as it is the only way to describe what we all need in order to deal with the long wait for Grand Theft Auto VI.

Is it really surprising, however?

The “most recent” Grand Theft Auto entry, Grand Theft Auto V, was first released way back in 2013 and despite regular updates to its GTA Online component, its base game has been left pretty much unchanged (if you don’t count the remastered editions).

As for Grand Theft Auto VI, it was first announced back in 2022 with its first official trailer taking the internet by storm when it was revealed in December 2023.

Now it is three years later and despite GTA VI originally planning to launch some time in Fall 2025, it was delayed until 26 May 2026 later this year with a second official trailer acting as an apology.

At the time of writing, it is just over nine months until we can finally get our hands on Rockstar’s latest instalment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and as one of the most popular gaming series of all time, it is perhaps no surprise that fans are losing their minds waiting.

However, one fan recently took to r/GTA6 to ask a very important question that not a lot of us have thought about.

“What is better? A pretty good GTA every 5 years? Or a REALLY good GTA every 10 years?”

This is a very fair point.

Although we have had to wait over a decade for the next GTA instalment, is that not better than receiving one sooner but not living up to expectations?

Well, it was not long before fans shared their thoughts in the comments and it seems as though they have come to a general consensus.

“Honestly after GTA 6 I'm fine with the former. Otherwise we probably won't live to see many,” the top comment reads.

“In reality though, GTA won't be GTA if it's not groundbreakingly innovative.”

Another agreed, adding, “Really good GTA every 10 years.

Quality over quantity.”

However, another fan thinks differently by reminding us all of our mortality.

“Unpopular opinion but I want one every five years,” they shared.

“You guys talk about quality over quantity as if you'll live to 2100, you won't. I'm fine with GTA 6 taking as long as it's taking but after that, I don't know if I'll even care to wait for it.”

It remains to be seen when GTA 7 (or whatever it may be called) is released but for now, let us just look forward to Grand Theft Auto VI which is set to be released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 26 May 2026.
