GTA VI could very well be the biggest video game launch of all-time, with the unannounced price of the game having already caused quite a stir.

It’s long been speculated that the rising cost of video games could lead to GTA VI being the first title to cost $100/£100 just for the base game.

Frankly, I’ve never bought into the rumours but if any game were to do it, it'd be GTA VI, as who isn’t going to buy it at launch regardless of pricing?

Thankfully though, recent months have suggested this won’t actually be the case, including an interview with Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick.

Zelnick spoke with CNBC and discussed a range of topics regarding GTA VI as well as extra projects currently in the works over at Rockstar Games.

On the matter of pricing, Zelnick said, "We've had variable pricing forever. We've had special editions that offer consumers much more value - those can be priced up. As a title is in the market and has been in our catalogue, we discount it to make sure we have the broadest possible audience.”

Zelnick went on to say, “Our job is to make sure that whatever we charge it is much, much less than the value we deliver. Our focus is being of service to our consumer."

This is great news, and it’s safe to say fans are relieved that this doesn’t need to be a topic of conversation anymore.

That’s not to say there won’t be a special edition priced as high as $100 but as Zelnick explained in the interview, that would be a premium product with more value than just the game itself.

Those worried that Rockstar Games is going to put out GTA VI at a loss shouldn’t be as the combined sales and whatever microtransactions are included in the new GTA Online mode will likely far exceed the cost of production.
