Resident Evil Requiem players on PC have a new, free mode to play, and it’ll get you closer to the survival horror than ever before.
As far as 2026 releases go, Resident Evil Requiem is definitely one of the standout titles. While we wouldn’t say it’s the best game Capcom has put out this year (that would have to be Pragmata) it’s an anxiety-inducing, action-packed rollercoaster from start to finish.
Now PC players get to experience it in a completely different light, and the best part is it’s through a free download.
It didn’t take long for PC users to start tearing the latest Resident Evil game apart and start stuffing it with new content.
Mods add near infinite replayability to video games and the Resident Evil series is no exception. One of my earliest articles here at GAMINGbible was about someone modding Shrek into the Resident Evil 4 remake’s Chainsaw Demo just hours after it went live.

This Resident Evil Requiem isn’t as silly but it’s just as impressive, as you can now play with a VR headset and motion controls.

RE9VR created by Talemann on NexusMods is exactly what it says on the tin, and has somehow beaten Capcom to the punch with its release. The last few Resident Evil games have all been given official VR modes/re-releases and we’re sure Requiem will get one eventually.
Those that don’t want to wait though need to check this out, especially as Requiem blends the best of both worlds into its gameplay.
In VR Grace’s more horror-focused portions of the game will feel more tense especially when you’ve got infected nipping at your heels.
On the flipside Leon’s John Wick-like sections will feel all the more satisfying thanks to guns having actual physics.
Sure Capcom’s version will likely perform better as it’ll have been developed by an entire studio rather than one person, but what we’ve seen from Talemann’s mod so far is incredibly impressive.
It also comes at a strange time in Resident Evil Requiem’s life. The hype of its initial release has died down and while the latest DLC added new combat challenges for Leon to the game it wasn’t a winner in everyone’s books.
The fans are waiting for something a little more substantial with rumours circulating of a story-driven DLC currently in the works.
Many hope it’ll follow some beloved Resident Evil characters who didn’t return for the latest game, like Ada Wong, Claire Redfield and her brother Chris Redfield. Technically Chris is part of the story of Requiem but we never actually see him, so perhaps the DLC will show us what he was getting up to during Leon’s nostalgic return to Raccoon City.
Then further down the line we’ll probably get that official VR mode we alluded to earlier, though in the meantime take advantage of Talemann’s take on it, especially since it’s free-to-play.
