Resident Evil 4 Shrek mod is the stuff of nightmares

This is my swamp

The remake of Resident Evil 4 isn’t even out yet but that hasn’t stopped modders from making their own “improvements” to the game, or more specifically, the recently released ‘Chainsaw Demo.’ Everybody do a roar, you can now fight Shrek…

Modder IvenXIII took a dive into the demo’s code and swapped out the infamous chainsaw man, Dr Salvador, with the more infamous Shrek. This turns the already horrifying village of El Pueblo into a swamp, and the big angry green guy wants you out.

As if the chainsaw guy wasn’t intimidating enough, they just had to turn him into a beloved ogre…

I think we can all agree that modding almost always makes a game more fun, and the concept of filling Resident Evil 4 with familiar faces is incredibly exciting. You could swap out Leon and Ashley for the likes of Joel and Ellie from The Last Of Us, or transform the miniature villain Salazar into Yoda, or as another user has done…turn the homicidal legion of Ganados into Teletubbies, absolutely terrifying.

The possibilities are truly endless, and we can’t wait to see what the modding community does when they get their hands on the full game on March 24th, which is already the highest-rated game of 2023 according to critics.

In our own review of Resident Evil 4, we hailed it as an excellent remake and a worthy tribute to the original game.

Our very own James Daly wrote: "I can’t deny that I’m sore about some of the cut content, and the gameplay mechanics aren’t always smooth, but, overall, Resident Evil 4 is a brilliant action-horror game and I’ll no doubt play through it multiple times over the coming months. Based on how well this game plays, it feels like Capcom could apply their knowledge to a remake of Resident Evil 5, but that’s a conversation for another time."
